Happy Birthday, Baynanza!

Baynanza is turning 30, and we're planning a big celebration! Join thousands of volunteers and help blow out the candles at the Baynanza Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day on Saturday, April 21. Baynanza is a six-week-long extravaganza that celebrates one of our most precious natural resources -- Biscayne Bay -- and its surroundings. Event sponsors are also welcome.

BNC, DERM and Zoning are being consolidated

Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez recently announced his plan to reduce the number of County departments.

"The Department of Permitting, Environment and Regulatory Affairs brings together the permitting and regulatory services of the County. This includes the zoning and land regulatory functions formerly in the Planning Department, as well as the Building and Neighborhood Compliance Departments. The purpose of this element of the reorganization is to provide the regulatory and permitting services of Miami-Dade County to our citizens and businesses in a more convenient and efficient manner."

Although groundwater levels have recovered, the 2011-12 dry season calls for predictions of below-average rainfall. Residents are encouraged to continue conserving water indoors and outdoors. As a reminder, Miami-Dade County's permanent two-day a week landscape irrigation restrictions remain in effect.
