Dead Animal Pickup

Miami-Dade Animal Services (ASD) does not pick up dead animals on private property or associated private lakes. If the dead animal is on private property, please contact a private pickup service for its removal. At its discretion, ASD may call on Solid Waste to remove the animal if the animal is very large.

Pickups for dead animals on state-maintained roads such as: U.S. 1, Kendall Drive, Bird Road, Tamiami Trail, and all expressways are handled by Florida Department of Transportation at 305-256-6390 or 305-470-2500 and not Animal Services.

For pickup of dead animals on the Florida Turnpike, Sawgrass Expressway and Homestead Extension, please contact the Public Information Office for the Florida Turnpike at 1-800-749-7453 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. or 1-954-934-1370 (after 5 p.m. on weekdays and 24-hours during weekends).

Dead animals in public waters are not picked up by ASD; this service is handled by the Road, Bridge, & Canal Maintenance Section of the County's Public Works Department. They can be reached at 305-592-3116. If the waterway is maintained by the South Florida Water Management District, please contact them at 561-686-8800 or toll free in Florida at-1-800-432-2045. For complaints regarding large-scale fish kills or duck kills, please contact the Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM), 305-372-6955.

Residents who wish to file a complaint about a dead animal on another person's private property should be referred to DERM, 305-372-6955. DERM will visit the property only when the owner is present to place a notice of Sanitary Nuisance. Please note: DERM does not remove the dead animal. DERM will contact, and if necessary, cite the owner until the dead animal is removed by the owner.
