How-to-Adopt

You can search for a pet online or go to the shelter. View descriptions and pictures of animals that are currently at our shelter.

If I find a pet I want to adopt online, what do I do?

  • Go to the shelter as soon as you are able. There is no guarantee that the pet you have identified online will still be available when you arrive at the shelter.

  • If the pet you wanted is no longer available, please consider adopting another animal in our shelter. Each day there are hundreds of loveable dogs and cats looking for a good home.

Is there anything I should bring with me to the shelter when I find the pet that I would like to adopt?

  • Don't forget to bring the animal's unique online identification number with you to the shelter. This will help you move through the adoption process faster.

Adoption Fees

Adoption fees for puppies and kittens under 4 months old include de-worming, puppy tags, FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) tests for cats, first set of vaccines and microchip.

Can I put a hold on an animal?

  • At this time, we are unable to reserve a specific animal or secure an adoption by calling the shelter ahead of time. Only by going in person to the Animal Services Shelter can you complete the adoption. If you are a Miami-Dade County resident, you could take the pet as a Foster to Adopt.

  • Not all pets in the website may be available for adoption. You must go in person to see which pets are available. Some pets may have not passed the health and/or temperament evaluations or may be pending evaluation, so you may not be able to see them.
