Who Must Apply
Any person(s) or corporation that operates a locksmith business in Miami-Dade County.
When to Apply
Monday through Friday (except holidays) 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Initial applicants must apply in person.
What to Bring

Completed application

Copy of current, permanent Occupational License

Articles of Incorporation/Fictitious Name Registration

Certificate of insurance with a minimum of $25,000 combined liability

Locksmith registrations with Miami-Dade Consumer Services Department (each locksmith business must employ at least one (1) certified licensed locksmith)

Workers’ Compensation Certificate or affirmatio

Cash will not be accepted. Fees can be paid by check, money order or cashiers check made payable to the "Board of County Commissioners". If renewing in person, the renewal fee can be paid by credit card (MasterCard or Visa).
Background Check
Initial applicants must complete a criminal background check and have two (2) passport photos taken as part of the application process. Information regarding these requirements will be provided when the application is submitted.
Incomplete Applications
If the application process is not completed within 60 days from the date that the application was filed with the Consumer Services Department, the application will be considered abandoned and closed and a new application and fee will be required.
Change of Ownership
In the event of a change in ownership of a locksmith business, a new application and fee is required. Corporations that have a change of ten (10) percent or more of its ownership shall notify the Consumer Services Department of the change no later than thirty (30) days after the date of the change.
Business Changes
Changes in any material aspect of the locksmith business shall be provided to the Consumer Services Department in writing along with proof of the change and the required fee, if replacement of the registration is required, within thirty (30) days of the change.
