Preparing for Hurricane Season

The Miami-Dade Consumer Services Departments has taken steps to let you know how to prepare so that you're not caught off guard. You will find the latest hurricane information on the department's Disaster Preparedness, Prevention and Management webpage http://www.miamidade.gov/csd/disaster.asp. Some of the topics discussed include how to guard against consumer fraud, sanitation and food safety after a hurricane, cable TV service issues and tree pruning. In addition, you will find essential links to other educational websites that answer important questions about how to bounce back from disasters -- sites such as Consumer Reports, Florida Department of Financial Services, FEMA and the National Hurricane Center.

The Consumer Services website also lists other helpful tips on specific topics:

Prepare for the Worst
Take an Inventory of Your Property
Review Your Insurance Coverage
After a Disaster Strikes and Your Home is Damaged
Home Repairs
Renters' Insurance to Cover Damages

Whether you're just browsing or looking for specific information, the Consumer Mediation Center staff is also here to assist you. They can be reached via email at consumer@miamidade.gov or telephone 305-375-3677.
