If you own a small business located in District 1, you may be eligible for funding to help your business grow! Commissioner Jordan is now accepting applications for the Mom & Pop Small Business Grant Program. Return the application available for download by the advertised deadline to be considered.
Commissioner Jordan to sponsor Movie Night
Residents in District 1 will enjoy a film under the stars, as animated characters take to the silver screen during Movie Night. On Saturday, January 28, residents in North Dade will be treated to a free movie at Country Village Park, 6550 NW 188 Terrace, in Miami, beginning at 7 p.m.
Commissioner Jordan to honor state football champions
On Tuesday, January 24, 2012, Commissioner Jordan will congratulate the Miami Norland Vikings varsity football team for winning the Class 5A State Championship. The presentation will be held in the Miami-Dade Commission Chambers, 111 N.W. First Street, Miami, Florida 33128, beginning at 9 a.m.
Holiday cheer in District 1!
Sporting a Santa hat and red jacket, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan played the role of Saint Nick when she delivered hundreds of toys to children at two Head Start Centers in Miami Gardens. Recently, Commissioner Jordan brought smiles to the faces of 2-5 year olds at the Ophelia Brown and Miami Gardens Head Start Centers in District 1.

Save money on your prescriptions with new discount card
In a joint effort between Miami-Dade and the National Association of Counties (NACo), Miami-Dade County has launched a new prescription discount card program to help residents save money on their medications. The free Miami-Dade County Prescription Discount Card can save you an average of 24% on prescriptions at participating pharmacies. There's no enrollment, no fee, and it's available at numerous County facilities near you. For more information, visit the program website or call 1-877-321-2652.Beautification program now extends past Opa-locka to all of District 1
Miami-Dade County Commissioners have approved a resolution by Commissioner Jordan to extend the boundaries of her neighborhood beautification program to the borders of her entire district. Previously known as the Opa-locka Triangle Area Beautification Demonstration Program, it assists homeowners with up to $5,900 of exterior painting and landscaping should they meet specific income requirements.
