(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Victory, it is the heading of distinction, and the indication of success. While many strive for its excellence, few can experience its true glory. On Tuesday, January 24, 2012, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara Jordan will congratulate the Miami Norland Vikings varsity football team for winning the Class 5A State Championship. The presentation will be held in the Miami-Dade Commission Chambers, 111 N.W. First Street, Miami, Florida 33128, beginning at 9 a.m.
“These students excel academically and athletically,” said Commissioner Jordan. “It is commendable that they returned to the state championship game to win for their school and the community in which they live.”
Miami Norland High School was undefeated this season. That perfect season gained the Vikings national recognition by ESPN, which ranked them No. 8 in the country. Winning the championship was redemption for the Vikings, who experienced a difficult loss at last year’s state championship game.
“Their hard work and determination has led to an impressive season,” added Jordan. “They had a goal in mind, they persevered and became the victors. I am proud of their accomplishment.”
