Commissioner Jordan delivered the 2012 Spring Commencement Address to Florida Memorial University's (FMU) largest graduating class. Commissioner Jordan, who also received her undergraduate degree from an HBCU, stressed the importance of students furthering their education and going from "Good to Great."
District 1 residents express gratitude and concerns during Tele-Town Hall Meeting
Commissioner Jordan got an earful of praises and concerns from residents living in the northernmost part of Miami-Dade County during an hour-long Tele-Town Hall meeting on May 10, 2012. Residents congratulated Commissioner Jordan for opening the lines of communication so they could conveniently convey issues they have with County-run agencies and facilities.
County Commission approves First Source Hiring Referral Program
On Tuesday, May 1, 2012, Miami-Dade Commissioners passed an ordinance creating the First Source Hiring Referral Program, designed to give qualified Miami-Dade residents a first crack at available County contract jobs. The ordinance, sponsored by Commissioner Jordan, establishes a databank of job seekers and their skill sets that businesses awarded County contracts can tap into in order to fill positions necessary to fulfill that contract.

Save money on your prescriptions with new discount card
In a joint effort between Miami-Dade and the National Association of Counties (NACo), Miami-Dade County has launched a new prescription discount card program to help residents save money on their medications. The free Miami-Dade County Prescription Discount Card can save you an average of 24% on prescriptions at participating pharmacies. There's no enrollment, no fee, and it's available at numerous County facilities near you. For more information, visit the program website or call 1-877-321-2652.Beautification program now extends past Opa-locka to all of District 1
Miami-Dade County Commissioners have approved a resolution by Commissioner Jordan to extend the boundaries of her neighborhood beautification program to the borders of her entire district. Previously known as the Opa-locka Triangle Area Beautification Demonstration Program, it assists homeowners with up to $5,900 of exterior painting and landscaping should they meet specific income requirements.
