(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Senior citizens in District 1 came out to Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan's 4th Annual Valentine Dance to cut a rug and celebrate love. The commissioner invited more than 300 seniors clad in red and white, from adult living facilities and other organizations, for dinner, music, and dancing on Friday, February 12, 2010 at the Landmark Auditorium. The event was free for all participants.
Live music was provided by the Miami House Rockers, who played tunes by some of the greatest bands and musicians of all time including the Drifters and Bobbie "Blue" Bland. The seniors danced to songs like "Funny Valentine" and "The Electric Slide". Door prizes were given away, with several local business providing coupons and gift certificates as event goodies. The commissioner provided free transportation to many of the seniors who attended. The event's sponsors included Florida Power and Light, Opa Locka Hialeah Flea Market, Calder Race Course and Casino, World Waste Services, AVE, Hebrew Home Health Network, Construction Catering and the Tax Doctor.
"This is one of my favorite yearly events. Everyone has a great time and goes all out in the spirit of Valentine's Day," said Commissioner Jordan.
