(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Some of the best and brightest from two District 1 elementary schools competed for the chance to be champions of Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan's 3rd Annual Brain Blast on Thursday, June 2, 2011. With the assistance of Kinad, Inc., the commissioner hosted a trivia competition in which participating students from elementary schools in District 1 were encouraged to prepare by researching various school subjects, and the history and accomplishments of African Americans. This year, North Dade Center for Modern Languages was victorious against Golden Glades Elementary School.
To be on the team representing their school, students engaged in two qualifying rounds at their school and the six top performers formed the teams representing each school. Both teams received prizes from Commissioner Jordan, as well as funding to go toward each school.
"I could definitely tell the students studied hard this year to prepare and I'm proud of them for making it this far in the competition," said Commissioner Jordan.
Kinad, Inc. is an organization that works with educational institutions to provide hands-on material on health awareness, physical fitness programs and cultural services. In addition, Sun Life Stadium sponsored the Brain Blast.
