(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Commissioner Bruno A. Barreiro and Miami Beach Mayor Matti Herrera Bower invite you to the opening of artist Xavier Cortada’s new South Beach studio on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Art Center South Florida, 924 Lincoln Road, Suite 201. Art lovers can check out Cortada’s studio from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. during the Lincoln Road Gallery Walk. A special presentation will begin at 8 p.m.
For the opening, Cortada will exhibit "80.15 W." Titled for Biscayne Bay's longitude, "80.15 W” features the seventeen threatened and endangered species that call Biscayne National Park home. Cortada created the drawings on carbon paper, a metaphor for the impact (or "carbon footprint”) that humans have had on that animal, even across the boundaries of protected nature preserves.
Proceeds from works sold during the reception will benefit the South Florida National Parks Trust. Samples of Cortada’s work can be found online at www.cortada.com.
