Commissioner Sorenson, representing District 8 since 1994, has been an outspoken advocate for her community and all of Miami-Dade County. The rhythms of steel drums and towering stilt walkers greet festival goers as they are drawn into the magical, island-style celebration that has become the Deering Seafood Festival. On Sunday, March 28th from 11a.m. - 6 p.m., seafood lovers of all ages come out and spend the day, because this event just keeps getting better.

The Board of County Commissioners approved an additional allocation of $344,000 today for Lakes By The Bay Park for development of interpretive nature trails.

On February 4, Commissioner Sorenson announced in a press conference that she will not seek re-election for a fifth term this year. The 2nd Annual Cat Spay/Neuter Extravaganza, sponsored in part by Commissioner Katy Sorenson, was a tremendous success.

Applications for the Mom and Pop Small Business Grant Program in District 8 are no longer available. The application deadline was Monday, February 8 2010.

Miami-Dade Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) is making free mulch available on a first-come, first-served basis.  The mulch offered is made from recycled Christmas trees and is a fragrant reminder of the holiday season.
