(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Recently, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Dennis C. Moss joined Zoo Miami's Director Eric Stephens, Zoological Society of Florida (ZSF) President & CEO Benjamin H. Pingree, ZSF Board Member Merrett Stierheim, Miami-Dade Park and Recreation (MDPR) Director Jack Kardys, State Representative Dwight Bullard, Kiss Country's Eric Brandon, a host of Zoological Society members, adult visitors and a group of children for the official grand opening and unveiling of The Wacky Barn at Zoo Miami's Children Zoo, located at 12400 SW 152 Street in South Miami-Dade.
Following the grand opening ceremonies, The Wacky Barn opened its doors to hundreds of visitors who enjoyed the new petting zoo experience in a colorful, non-traditional barn featuring a collection of animals including miniature and Shetland horses, goats, alpaca, sheep and other animals. In addition, the guests were treated to not only meeting these fun and amazing animals, but also received great giveaways, treats, live country music and special admission prices throughout the month of July. The Wacky Barn opened just in time for the Community Hoe Down during the Independence Day weekend.
Commissioner Moss serves as Chairman of the Zoo Oversight Board, a public/private partnership between the Zoo and the Zoological Society Foundation. The Florida Project, primarily funded by the Government Obligation Bond (GOB), and a longer term vision for a Zoo Entertainment District including a water park, a family entertainment center complex and a vacation hotel are all a part of the master plan for Zoo Miami.
Commissioner Moss commented, "Miami-Dade County has added one more exciting attraction here at Zoo Miami so we welcome parents and children of all ages to come out and enjoy this new state-of-the-art Wacky Barn. If you want to have a wacky good time, visit The Wacky Barn at Zoo Miami."
