Welcome to District 12
District 12 encompasses an area of western Miami-Dade County between SW 8th Street and NW 202nd Street, west of Hialeah. It includes the City of Doral, Hialeah, Hialeah Gardens, Medley, Sweetwater, and Virginia Gardens, as well as a large part of unincorporated Miami-Dade County.
Voters in District 12 first elected José "Pepe" Diaz to the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners in September 2002. Commissioner Diaz was reelected without opposition in September 2010.
There will be a free screening of Miami-Dade Golden Veterans: 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War on May 29 at 7 p.m. at Littman Theater.
Commissioner Diaz honors fallen firefighters
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz joined Mayor Carlos Gimenez, the Board of County Commissioners, the Miami-Dade Fire-Rescue Department (MDFR), and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1403, in a ceremony on June 17 to honor the lives of local firefighters who have died in the line of duty or from cancer-related causes.
SR 826/Palmetto Expressway will add tolled express lanes
The Palmetto Express project by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six will add tolled express lanes along the SR 826/Palmetto Expressway from W. Flagler St. to NW 154 St. and along I-75 from the Palmetto Expressway to NW 170 St. in Miami-Dade County. The project will provide continuity to the upcoming I-75 express lanes being developed by FDOT District Four, from NW 170 St. in Miami-Dade County to I-595 in Broward County. Report wage theft
The Wage Theft Ordinance, which is governed by Chapter 22 of the Code of Miami-Dade County and became effective on February 28, 2010, applies to private sector employees and employers. Employees who have not been paid in full or at all for completed work may report their employers to the County's Small Business Development Department by filling out one of the forms below. For more information about the Wage Theft Ordinance or assistance completing and sending the forms, call SBD at 305-375-3146.
