Back-to-School Immunizations

Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz hosted a free immunization event in his district at the Fire Fighters Memorial Building in Doral on August 18, 2011. Children ages 2 months to 18 years were able to receive the necessary vaccinations recommended once the school year begins.

College Scholarships

Seven lucky District 12 students will start college in the fall with some financial assistance, thanks to Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz. The commissioner awarded each student with a $1,000 check to be used for tuition, books, a computer, or anything school-related.

Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz celebrated the grand opening of the NW 137 Avenue Extension - Beacon Lakes Boulevard - in West Miami-Dade. The commissioner joined Flagler's Executive Vice President and South Florida Market Officer Eric D. Swanson for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony and welcomed the first car to drive over the long-anticipated roadway.

Welcome to District 12

District 12 encompasses an area of western Miami-Dade County between SW 8th Street and NW 202nd Street, west of Hialeah. It includes the City of DoralHialeahHialeah GardensMedley, Sweetwater, and Virginia Gardens, as well as a large part of unincorporated Miami-Dade County.

Voters in District 12 first elected José "Pepe" Diaz to the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners in September 2002. Commissioner Diaz was reelected without opposition in September 2006.

Mom & Pop application process closed

The application  process for the District 12 Mom & Pop Small Business Grant Program is now complete. For those who have completed applications, please be sure to turn them in to the commissioner's office between January 30 to February 3, 2012 by 5 p.m. Call 305-599-1200 for more information.

Need money for college?

Commissioner Diaz is calling on all high school seniors attending a school in District 12 to apply for his annual scholarship opportunity. The commissioner is offering $1,000 to students planning to attend any Florida college or university. Up to six scholarships will be awarded. Please return completed applications by Friday, April 13, 2012 at 5 p.m.

Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz brings joy to elderly at his annual holiday luncheon

About 1,000 Seniors from District 12 celebrated with Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz at his much-anticipated annual holiday luncheon that was held on Wednesday, December 7, 2011.  This eventful occasion was filled with Latin soap opera stars, free lunch, dancing, giveaways, and raffle items that included gift baskets, televisions, and microwaves.

Commissioner Diaz distributes 200 turkeys to District 12 families

Lucky students from schools in Commissioner Diaz's district received free turkeys at the commissioner's district office for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Miami-Dade Commission approves legislation asking retailers to pull “pothead candy” off store shelves

During the Tuesday, October 18, 2011 Miami-Dade Commission meeting, commissioners unanimously approved a resolution condemning the sale of “pothead candy” at local stores. The item, sponsored by Commissioner Diaz, urges retailers, with the exception of adult novelty stores, to remove these controversial candies popular among youths.

Report wage theft

The Wage Theft Ordinance, which is governed by Chapter 22 of the Code of Miami-Dade County and became effective on February 28, 2010, applies to private sector employees and employers. Employees who have not been paid in full or at all for completed work may report their employers to the County's Small Business Development Department by filling out one of the forms below. For more information about the Wage Theft Ordinance or assistance completing and sending the forms, call SBD at 305-375-3146.
