Voters in District 12 first elected José "Pepe" Diaz to the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners in September 2002. Commissioner Diaz was reelected in August 2014.

Commissioner Diaz urges support for Dream Act

The Board of County Commissioners passed two resolutions on Nov. 7 sponsored by Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz to urge the federal government to continue two pro-immigration reforms. The first resolution asks Congress to enact the "Dream Act" and the second resolution urges the U.S. Defense Department to continue the Military Accessions Vital to National Interest (MAVNI) program, which recruits legal immigrants with medical and language skills into the military and provides expedited naturalization in exchange for enlistment.

Commissioner Diaz rolls up sleeves to help during and after Irma

Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz was busy helping constituents before, during and after Hurricane Irma - from putting up plywood and visiting shelters to assisting with post-Irma cleanup and power restoration and distributing ice, food and water.

Mom and Pop Small Business Grant

Are you a small business owner in District 12? If so, the Mom and Pop Small Business Grant Program provides financial assistance and technical assistance to qualified small businesses. Applications are no longer available.

Home beautification grants available to low-income owners

Low-income families in Doral, Hialeah Gardens, Virginia Gardens and Sweetwater can receive up to $3,000 grant to renovate their homes.  Grant applications are available at Commissioner Diaz’s district office at 8345 NW 12th St., Miami, FL 33126.

SR 826/Palmetto Expressway will add tolled express lanes

The Palmetto Express project by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six will add tolled express lanes along the SR 826/Palmetto Expressway from W. Flagler St. to NW 154 St. and along I-75 from the Palmetto Expressway to NW 170 St. in Miami-Dade County. The project will provide continuity to the upcoming I-75 express lanes being developed by FDOT District Four, from NW 170 St. in Miami-Dade County to I-595 in Broward County. Report wage theft

The Wage Theft Ordinance, which is governed by Chapter 22 of the Code of Miami-Dade County and became effective on February 28, 2010, applies to private sector employees and employers. Any employer who fails to pay any portion of wages due to an employee according to the wage rate applicable to that employee, and within a reasonable time from the date on which that employee performed the work for which those wages were compensation, shall be wage theft under this Ordinance.
