TITLE
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT FOR UP TO $100,000 IN GRANT FUNDS WITH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR A GREENWAY SIGNAGE DEMONSTRATION PROJECT AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE TO RECEIVE AND EXPEND FUNDS, AND EXECUTE AMENDMENTS AS REQUIRED

BODY
WHEREAS, this Board desires to accomplish the purpose outlined in the accompanying memorandum, a copy of which is incorporated herein by reference,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board authorizes the County Manager to execute a contract for up to $100,000 in grant funds with the Florida Department of Transportation for a greenway signage demonstration project; and authorizes the County Manager or his designee to execute such agreements as are required by this governmental body following approval by the County Attorney’s Office; to receive and expend all monies for the purposes described in the funding request; and to file and execute any necessary amendments to the agreement for and on behalf of Miami-Dade County, Florida.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board approve the attached resolution authorizing the County Manager or his designee to execute a contract and amendments as required, and receive and expend up to $100,000 in funds from the Florida Department of Transportation for a greenway signage demonstration project.

MANAGER'S BACKGROUND
The Florida Department of Transportation, through its Local Agency Program, awards funds for transportation enhancement projects. The Miami-Dade County Park and Recreation Department has recently received Local Agency Program Certification in planning, design, consultant selection, bid and award project, construction administration, and right of way .

The Department seeks authorization to enter into a contract with the Florida Department of Transportation to receive and expend up to $100,000 to plan and design signage for County Greenways. The project will develop standards that consider safety, aesthetics, readability and environmental and historical interpretation. The demonstration project will include the installation of signs along the northern 2.5 mile portion of the Biscayne Trail and the trailhead at Black Point Park. A match of $10,000 will be provided by future Capital Outlay Reserve funds.
