REPORT: Commissioner Diaz asked for clarification on the intent of the foregoing resolution. Mr. John Renfrow, Director, Miami Dade Water and Sewer Department, noted this was a conservation program and the goal was to target one hotel per month or twelve per year, starting with the larger hotels. Ms. Maribel Valderama, Conservation Manager, Miami-Dade Water and Sewer (W&S), noted this was one part of the Water Use Efficiency Plan adopted by the Commission, and the County would work with Florida Department of Environmental Projection (FDEP) in their Green Lodging program. Commissioner Diaz stated this was one great example of the County’s effort to work with hotels and other entities to conserve water and promote efficiency in water use. He congratulated Commission Chairman Joe Martinez, Mr. Renfrow and Ms. Valderama for their efforts and initiative to move this plan forward. He also noted that Mr. Renfrow and he visited various hotels and encouraged the owners to replace the bathroom showerheads with more efficient ones. Chairwoman Seijas noted for the record that she would lobby for the creation of the Clean Waters Trust Fund during the National Association of Counties (NaCO) Conference in August.
