Presented by the Miami-Dade County Addiction Services Board at the Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association (FADAA) and the Florida Council for Community Mental Health (FCCMH) 2010 Annual Conference: "Creating a New Vision: The Path to the Future" at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando, Florida on August 11, 2010.
Abstract
The problem of prescription drug abuse has become a fatal epidemic that affects individuals across all societal classes. The line between its use for pain relief treatment and addiction is often obscure and can result in unforgiving drastic legal ramifications. The proposed presentation aims at raising awareness of the multi-faceted issues presented by this problem. Learning goals for the proposed presentation are as follows:- Participants will learn about the spectrum of issues associated with the multi-faceted problem of prescription drug abuse, the addiction process, and the populations affected;
- Participants will understand the legal repercussions of prescription drug abuse, including regulatory and law enforcement issues;
- Participants will be informed about effective treatment modalities for prescription drug abuse and access to treatment.
