GSA Green Buildings
GSA Design & Construction is committed to designing and building green and LEED Silver in accordance with Miami-Dade County’s Sustainable Buildings Ordinance. We recognize that reducing the environmental impact of our new construction projects is an important part of the value we deliver to the employees who work in those buildings and to the citizens that visit those facilities.
GSA Trades Shop (Completed Project)
The GSA Trades Shop Facility will become Miami-Dade County’s first LEED Silver Certified facility and will be the “greenest” building in Miami-Dade County. The new building will be the new headquarters for over 100 County employees, including construction managers, carpenters, refrigeration, and A/C mechanics, painters, electricians, and plumbing staff. The facility will also contain office space, a stock room warehouse, a staff training room, GSA record storage and a furniture warehouse facility. Parking for 112 private and county vehicles will be included on the 5.5 acres property, along with bicycle parking and changing facilities as required by LEED.
The materials to construct the facility will include sustainable wood, recyclable carpets and eco-friendly furniture. The building will have a state of the art air conditioning system and a water filtration system, including underground collection tanks that will recycle grey water from drinking fountains to operate the irrigation system. Recycling systems and equipment for paper, brass, copper, metals, wood, fluorescent or other light bulbs will be implemented.
The GSA Trade Shop Facility is slated to be Silver LEED™ certified, a nationally accepted certification and benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance, sustainable buildings. Children's Court House (Current Project)
The Miami-Dade Children’s Courthouse will be built adjacent to the Stephen P. Clark Center and close to the County Courthouse Miami. The 11 story building is expected to meet LEED Silver Certification under the USGBC’s LEED rating. The new Courthouse’s design has been celebrated for its sensitivity to the special caseload that it will handle. It will reflect the unified family court concept, combining under one roof traditional and family courts plus social service agencies and other resources. Plans call for six or seven floors with four courtrooms each, for a total of 24 or 28 courtrooms, each with its own secure holding area. Secure holding cells for adults and juveniles will be located on the main floor near the sally port. Located on the top two floors will be the judges’ chambers, the Clerk of Courts of the 11th Judicial Circuit Juvenile Division, and administrative offices.
North East Library. (Future Project)
North East Library in Aventura will be the first LEED Silver Certified Library in Miami-Dade County. It is a 26,000-square-foot building will include eco-friendly construction and sustainable materials to create the county’s first “green” public library. Building green features includes two open courtyards to allow natural sunlight to come in to the space thus minimizing energy consumption and the use of non-toxic, renewable materials.>
The facility will be located on the site of the former library adjacent to the county fire station near Aventura Mall. It will be more than twice the size of the former library, which was demolished earlier in 2009.
Little River Library. (Future Project)
Project status is in design for LEED demolition of current on-site building.
