Fuel Credit Cards

Fleet Management Division, an agency of Internal Services operates 29 fueling sites throughout Miami-Dade County. It provides unleaded and diesel fuel to County owned/leased vehicles and to various other local governmental entities. An automated fuel system is installed at all locations to provide controls over the fuel inventory. 

A fuel card, issued to each vehicle, must be inserted in the terminal at the pump to activate the fuel dispensing system. The odometer reading, entered at every fueling visit, is recorded in the system and is used to establish PM inspection schedules by the shops. A small segment of the County's heavy equipment fleet is now obtaining fuel through a cardless system, funded by the using departments, which automatically transmits mileage information from the vehicle to the fuel computer when fueling.      

Every vehicle that is authorized to obtain fuel from Miami-Dade County fueling sites is assigned a magnetic stripe fuel card to activate the automated fueling computer.  To replace a lost, stolen, or damaged fuel card, the departmental Transportation Coordinator must provide/fax a written request to Fleet's Administrative Office.  A $10 fee will be charged for replacing a fuel card. 

The two most common errors that will appear on the fueling terminal when attempting to fuel are:  "odometer error" and "card error". To correct an "odometer error", call the number listed on the back of the fuel card to update the mileage reading in the computer system. A "card error" can only be corrected by having the card's magnetic information recoded at one of seven Fleet locations.
