Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez convenes Blue Ribbon Taskforce to analyze the future of the Miami-Dade Public Library System
Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez announced he is convening a Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Taskforce at the end of this month to analyze and develop a Master Plan for the future of the Miami-Dade Public Library System. The taskforce, which will be led by Mayor Gimenez, is comprised of business, education and community leaders as well as library funders, advocates, patrons and employees.
"I want to engage the entire community in a serious conversation about how we can preserve our libraries for the long-term future and provide even better services," said Mayor Gimenez. "Our residents and visitors deserve a sustainable, top-notch library system, and my administration aims to deliver on that."

South Florida Workforce Investment Board announces Ready To Work - Employment
South Florida Workforce Investment Board (SFWIB) announced the opening of registration for its Ready to Work –Employment Program, created to provide young adults from low-income families with the opportunity to enhance their work-readiness skills while also earning income.
In its second year of implementation, the program is aligned with the efforts of Actively Investing in Miami-Dade (“the AIM Initiative”), which was unveiled by Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez on May 31, 2013 at the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s 2013 Goals Conference at Jungle Island in Miami. In announcing the new initiative, the Mayor called upon local businesses to join him in a community-wide effort to expand job and internship opportunities for local young adults.

Miami-Dade County chosen to receive first-ever Federal grant for domestic violence prevention
The United States Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) has announced that Miami-Dade County is one of 12 counties and cities around the country to receive a grant ranging from $100,000 to $200,000, for an initiative to prevent and reduce domestic violence and domestic violence related homicides.
The grant comes from the first-ever Domestic Violence Homicide Prevention Demonstration Initiative, created by the OVW, to help minimize domestic violence homicides by effectively identifying potential victims and monitoring high-risk offenders.
Joint Roundtable on Youth Safety
|Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez together with Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho, hosted two joint roundtable discussions on Youth Safety with local officials. The Roundtable united local leaders, including Mayors and Police Chiefs of various municipalities within the Miami-Dade community, to work together on public safety initiatives in light of the recent senseless acts of violence that have affected our entire nation.|

Mayor Gimenez's Installation Ceremony took place on Wednesday, July 6 at 2 p.m., in the Board of County Commission Chambers at the Stephen P. Clark Center.|

Carlos A. Gimenez was elected as Miami-Dade County's Mayor on June 28, 2011. Prior to this election, Mayor Gimenez served on the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners for seven years.
