(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- On Saturday, July 4, 2009, at 6:30 p.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) responded to a motor-vehicle-collision involving a motorcycle and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) at NE 19th Avenue and Miami Gardens Drive. First-arriving units from MDFR's North Miami Beach Station 31 discovered two male riders who had been ejected when their motorcycle was struck by the SUV. A 24-year-old man and his 16-year-old passenger were severely injured. Firefighters acted quickly to stabilize both critically injured men and then transported them to the trauma center via Air Rescue. One of the injured riders slipped into a coma due to the severe traumatic injuries that he suffered, and the other sustained a severe head injury. Fortunately, both males survived and have made a full recovery. On Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at 10 a.m., one of the survivors will reunite with the fire crews who came to his aid and thank them for saving his life.
