Accomplishments

• Increased the number of Black jurors on criminal and civic juries
  
  
• Established the Florida Martin Luther King, Jr. Institute for Nonviolence
  
  
• Created the first nonviolence management institution of its kind in the State of Florida
  
  
• Established the first Miami-Dade County Teen Court
  
  
• Developed an alternative education program --Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy: Leadership School -- based on the philosophy of Civil Rights Leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
  
  
• Created the North Dade Community Development Federal Credit Union
  
  
• Provided assistance to the first Black-owned Denny's Restaurant in the Southeastern United States
  
  
• Fostered several youth business-owners in South Dade
  
  
• Funded housing developments in West Perrine
  
  
• Created the MMAP Housing Empowerment Program that encompasses a down payment assistance program, pre- and post- counseling project and a housing development initiative
  
  
• Coordinated the annual Boss-For-A-Day event for public high school students to shadow a professional in a desired industry for a day
  
  
• Positioned the agency as a resource center for news media and thousands of Black residents concerned with the socioeconomic state of Miami-Dade County Black community
  
  
• Organized hundreds of community forums and workshops in heightening awareness of critical socioeconomic issues
  
  
• Awarded millions of dollars to small businesses and community-based organizations
  
  
• Hosted the largest and longest-running conference on local Black issues
