| The MPO Governing Board created the
Transportation Aesthetics Review Committee, or TARC, to
insure that bridges and other high-visibility transportation
projects are reviewed for their aesthetic impact on the
community. The aesthetic design principles used in reviewing
projects include creating a sense of place; having an artistic
vision, and designing and building projects that are practical
and dynamic; and manifest the image of the city.
Each Governing Board member appoints one
TARC member. While most members have been architects, planners,
and engineers, there are no specific professional or geographic
requirements.
Sample projects reviewed by TARC include:
- the lighting of the Port of Miami Bridge;
- Palmetto Metrorail Station;
- SR-836 Toll Plaza at 17th Avenue;
- Douglas Road Pedestrian Overpass; and,
- Biscayne Boulevard NE 5th Street to 13th Street.
