Hurricane Evacuation Centers
DEM partners with Dade County Public Schools and the American Red Cross (ARC), to operate Hurricane Evacuation Centers (HEC). These HECs provide refuges of last resort for those individuals who need to evacuate and are unable to make their own evacuation/sheltering arrangements, such as with friends, family, or in hotels outside of the evacuation zones.See the 2011 Hurricane Evacuation Centers:

Bus Pickup Points
For those individuals who do not have their own transportation to the HECs, this is provided by Miami-Dade Transit via "emergency evacuation bus pick-up sites" throughout the County's evacuation zones.
Any of the following Miami-Dade Transit Agency Bus Pick-Up points
will be activated only for hurricane evacuations. Residents should listen to the media or call 3-1-1 to find out when the buses will transport people from the pick-up points to Red Cross Evacuation Centers. Buses that will transport people for hurricane evacuations will have a special notice on the front of the bus where the route information is displayed.
