    Radiological Hazards

    Turkey Point

    Turkey Point
The Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant has been in operation since 1972. Federal, state, and local agencies maintain emergency response programs in place for managing resources and protecting the public in the unlikely event of radiation release from either of the plant's two nuclear reactors. Below is information regarding the plant operations, the testing of safety equipment, and planning guides for organizations and residents in the 10-mile radius around the plant.

    Siren Tests

Emergency notification sirens within the 10-mile emergency planning zone are tested at 1 p.m. the first Friday of March, June, September, and December.

Title 44 Code of Federal Regulations, Section 350 requires there be a means to provide early notification to the populace within 10-miles of nuclear power plants.  To ensure the early notification system  is maintained and functions at a high level of reliability, the system of warning sirens within 10-miles of the Turkey Point nuclear power plant are tested the first Friday of each quarter (March, June, September, and December) at approximately 1 p.m.  The entire test lasts approximately 20 minutes and consists of a voice notification that the test is about to begin; a test sound; and a voice notification that the test has ended.
