Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez appoints new Parks director
Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez appointed George Navarrete as the new Parks director effective Nov. 17, 2016, replacing Jack Kardys who retires in January after a distinguished 36-year career at Miami-Dade Parks. Maria Nardi was appointed as the deputy director.

Styrofoam and plastic items banned from parks
Polystyrene, used to create Styrofoam and certain plastics, is a petroleum-based plastic that is considered our nation's fifth largest creator of hazardous waste.
