Look who’s talking about Parks

Read Parks Foundation Board President Raul Garcia’s letter thanking Miami Foundation President and CEO Javier Alberto Soto and David Lawrence, Jr. for their support of Parks with an Op-Ed piece and Letter to the Editor respectively in The Miami Herald.

Zoo Miami Fishing Derby

Get your rods and bait ready! The annual Fishing Derby is back at Zoo Miami. Zoo fans are welcome to come and fish at the lakes to help and keep the lakes healthy for native fish and wildlife. This year's event will even include a special breakfast with animal encounters and a yummy buffet! $50 per adult, $20 per child (ages 3-10) and children under 2 are free.

Fee-Free P.L.A.Y. Day at Deering Estate

Every summer, the Deering Estate at Cutler waives admission for one weekend day per month. With free admission guests can access historic homes, enjoy hands-on science activities, educational animals, local vendors and food stalls!

Mini Canoe Tours are included (weather permitted) at $10 per person. Tours will occur at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m. Registration is required for the trip at the beverage tent. Space is limited.

Cabaret Concert at Deering Estate

The upcoming concert features Dr. Ed Calle in the intimate setting of the historic Stone House Ballroom. Showtime is at 8 p.m., and it is recommended to arrive early for preferred seating. Guests are welcome to bring refreshments and snacks to enjoy during the show. Tickets are $20 each. Limited seating is available.

Bowling for Rhinos

Join Zoo Miami on Aug. 28 from 6:30-10:00 p.m. at Bird Bowl Bowling Center (9275 SW 40 Street Miami, FL 33165) for a special night to help save rhinos. The $25 per bowler registration fee and $15 per child under 12 includes shoe rental, pizza and soda. 100% of all funds raised go directly towards rhino conservation in both Asia and Africa.

2015 Summer Savings Pass

The Summer Savings Pass unlimited admission to Zoo Miami, Miami Seaquarium, Lion Country Safari, and Museum of Discovery & Science for one low price, and is valid from May 15 - Sept. 30. The costs is $56 plus tax, per adult and $46 plus tax, per child (ages 3-12).

Miami-Dade Parks Receives Multiple Awards

Miami-Dade Parks is pleased to announce that it has received recognition and multiple awards from NACO, Trip Advisor and “Best of Miami 2015” by the New Times’.

Heads Up: Concussion in youth sports

To help ensure the health and safety of young athletes, CDC developed the Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports initiative to offer information about concussions to coaches, parents, and athletes involved in youth sports.

The Heads Up initiative provides important information on preventing, recognizing, and responding to a concussion. It's Better to Miss One Game Than the Whole Season!
