Bowling for Rhinos

Join Zoo Miami on Aug. 28 from 6:30-10 p.m. at Bird Bowl Bowling Center (9275 SW 40 Street Miami, FL 33165) for a special night to help save rhinos. The $25 per bowler registration fee and $15 per child under 12 includes shoe rental, pizza and soda. 100% of all funds raised go directly towards rhino conservation in both Asia and Africa.

Cabaret Concert at Deering Estate on Aug. 29

The upcoming concert features Dr. Ed Calle in the intimate setting of the historic Stone House Ballroom. Showtime is at 8 p.m., and it is recommended to arrive early for preferred seating. Guests are welcome to bring refreshments and snacks to enjoy during the show. Tickets are $20 each. Limited seating is available.

Show us your street smarts and win $10,000

Between now and Nov. 1, Neat Streets Miami is looking for communities who are rethinking their streets. If your community has made efforts such as increasing enforcement of bicycle and pedestrian laws, passing a Complete Streets resolution, or building more pedestrian, bicycle and transit friendly facilities, your community is encouraged to join the Street Smarts Competition!

Gratigny Plateau Park celebrated its one-year anniversary on Aug. 20

Hosted by Local 10 News Team and the Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade, the free community block party featured refreshments, music, exercise and fitness workouts, butterfly friendly plant giveaways, and a volunteer planting project by the University of Florida/IFAS Miami-Dade County Extension, Florida Yards and Neighborhoods program. Watch the Local 10 News coverage that brought out neighbors and sponsoring organizations to celebrate this milestone.

Fee-Free P.L.A.Y. Day at Deering Estate

Every summer, the Deering Estate at Cutler waives admission for one weekend day per month. With free admission guests can access historic homes, enjoy hands-on science activities, educational animals, local vendors and food stalls!

Mini Canoe Tours are included (weather permitted) at $10 per person. Tours will occur at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m. Registration is required for the trip at the beverage tent. Space is limited.

Heads Up: Concussion in youth sports

To help ensure the health and safety of young athletes, CDC developed the Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports initiative to offer information about concussions to coaches, parents, and athletes involved in youth sports.

The Heads Up initiative provides important information on preventing, recognizing, and responding to a concussion. It's Better to Miss One Game Than the Whole Season!
