Seaweed on County beaches

Miami-Dade Parks is working diligently within the parameters set by the Department of Environmental protection (DEP) and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) to address the enormous amounts of seaweed affecting our beaches. We presently have permission to gently till the seaweed back towards the ocean from the high tide mark. We are required to ask for ''special conditions'' to operate heavy machinery on beaches during turtle nesting season.

While seaweed may feel like a nuisance, it is highly beneficial to our beaches. It serves as habitat and nourishment for marine life, provides nutrients to the shore, and can replenish eroded areas. If the beach experience isn't pleasant, consider a visit to one of our pools. Thank you for your patience.
