PortMiami the New Florida Homeport for Disney Cruise Line
PortMiami is looking forward to welcoming Disney Cruise Line as the latest addition to its cruise fleet. This is the first time a Disney ship will operate from a South Florida port. The Disney Wonder will begin sailing in December 2012 from PortMiami with four and five - night itineraries to the Bahamas and Western Caribbean.
The Miami-Dade County Commission has approved the Port of Miami's purchase of four additional Super-Post Panamax cranes. The new cranes are necessary to accommodate the larger containerized cargo vessels that will traverse the expanded Panama Canal in 2014. The Port of Miami currently has nine cranes, two of which are Super-Post-Panamax cranes.
Port of Miami and the Panama Canal Authority Sign Agreement Aimed at Expanding Trade
The Port of Miami and the Panama Canal Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Oct. 27 between the two entities that will promote new business growth via the all water route between Asia and North America's East Coast via the expanded Panama Canal.
Prestige Cruise Holdings, the parent company of Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, and a market leader in the upper premium and luxury segments of the cruise industry, is relocating Regent's operations to the Port of Miami. Beginning in the fall of 2012, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, which now operates out of Port Everglades, will join its sister company, Oceania Cruises, at the Port of Miami.

Seaboard Marine Initiates New Miami to Mexico Service
Seaboard Marine recently announced new direct weekly service from the Port of Miami to Veracruz and Altimira, Mexico starting Nov. 7. Commencing with the sailing of the M/V Eclips from the Port of Miami, the service will have a three-day transit to Veracruz and a four-day transit to Altimira.
A giant 43-foot wide, 265-ton cutter head that's longer than a football field has been lowered into a pit on Watson Island. It's the crucial front piece of the massive boring machine that will dig the Port of Miami tunnel.The tunnel is slated for completion in 2014 and will give trucks direct access to the port and reduce traffic downtown.
