The Department of Transportation and Public Works joins partners to commemorate the launch of Complete Streets in Downtown Miami
The Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW), in collaboration with the Miami Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and the City of Miami, will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the launch of a one-year Complete Streets pilot project in Downtown Miami. The ceremony will take place at the intersection of SE 1st St. and SE 2nd Ave. on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 10 a.m.
The Complete Streets Downtown Miami pilot project is reconfiguring SE/SW 1st St. between Biscayne Boulevard and SW 2nd Ave., and will feature a red bus-only lane and a dedicated green bicycle lane. This project, which is a direct result of the Safer People, Safer Streets Local Action Plan adopted by the Board of County Commissioners in 2016, will provide residents, employees and visitors of Downtown Miami with safe and functional access within the Central Business District; as well as a better connection to Bayfront Park and its iconic waterfront.
Complete Streets features incorporated into the Downtown Miami pilot project are: A dedicated bicycle lane; an exclusive bus lane; additional tree canopy/planters; improved crosswalks; reduced speed limit (from 30 mph to 25 mph); and new signage.
