Bike & Ride

Bike & RideBicycling, a popular South Florida pastime, is a fun way to exercise. And it’s a clean-air commute, too. Now, cyclists can take a single-seat two-wheeler on extended trips anytime and just about anywhere in Miami-Dade County on many Metrobus routes, Metrorail, and also Metromover.

Call the bicycle / pedestrian coordinator at 305-375-1647.

Biking Safety

  • Use caution when stepping off the curb to load or unload your bike.
  • Wait for the bus to leave before crossing the street.
  • Observe all local traffic laws while riding your bike.
  • Be patient while others load or remove bikes from the rack. Load and unload quickly.
  • Helmets have high visibility and provide protection for your head during a crash. Wear one whenever you bike.
  • Florida law requires lights on your bike for night riding.
  • Wear bright clothing during daylight hours and reflective clothing at night.

For more details on the Bike & Ride program, e-mail the Miami-Dade bicycle/pedestrian coordinator or call 305-375-1647.

Just pay your Metrorail fare, roll your bike through the handicap gate, and take the elevator to the platform. Always be prepared to show your bike permit at the request of transit officials.

How to ride Metrobus with your bike

Remove loose items to prepare your bike for loading. Flag down a rack-equipped bus, and wait until the bus comes to a complete stop. No Bike & Ride permit is needed. On occasion, a bus may arrive with an occupied, missing, or out-of-service bicycle rack. If so, please wait for the next bus.

  1. Lower the Bike Rack
Each rack holds two bikes. To mount your bicycle on the rack, squeeze the silver rack handle up with one hand to release the latch. Carefully lower the rack.

  2. Load Your Bike
Place your bike into the "front" and "rear" slots. If yours is the first bike on the rack, mount it in the slots nearest the front of the bus.

  3. Secure Your Bike
Raise the bike support arm over the front wheel as far as possible. The arm must rest on the tire, not the fender.

  4. Board the Bus
Once on the bus, pay your fare to continue your trip. As the bus approaches your stop, let the operator know you must unload your bike. Exit through the front door. To unload, release the support arm and lift the bike from the rack. If the rack is empty, squeeze the silver handle to return the rack to the upright or closed position.
