A Sign Marks the Bus Stop
Always wait for the bus at the green bus stop sign, which lists route and basic schedule information. When the bus nears your stop, listen for the Bus Operator/automated voice that announces the name or number and final destination of the route. Visual announcements are provided above the windshield. A number, name/letter, or both identify most bus routes. Some trips within the same route serve only a portion of that route. These routes are called short turns. A number attached to a letter (Example: 22A) identifies short-turn routes. Other routes may have a number and name, such as 51 Flagler MAX or 202 Little Haiti Connection.
It is important to check the display sign to be sure the bus is traveling to your destination. You can also ask the Bus Operator for the bus route or final destination if no announcement is made when the bus nears your stop. Have your exact fare, EASY Card, EASY Ticket, Golden Passport, or Patriot Passport ready. Allow passengers in wheelchairs and any passenger with a physical disability to board or exit first.
Paying Your Fare
Cost per trip is $2.00.
For easy riding, use an EASY Card or EASY Ticket. Just tap your card or ticket on the farebox and board. You can also pay with cash (no pennies), but change will not be provided. The EASY Card or EASY Ticket will be needed to take advantage of free bus-to-bus transfers. Board your bus within three hours after tapping out of a Metrorail station or boarding your last bus. (A return trip is not considered a transfer and will require full fare.) Cash-paying customers must pay the full fare each time they board a bus, as paper transfers have been eliminated.
On the Bus
Seats in the front of the bus directly behind the operator and next to the door are reserved for persons using wheelchairs, persons with ambulatory disabilities and senior citizens.
Priority Seating Areas: The front seats facing the front of the bus are designated as Priority Seating Areas for persons with disabilities and senior citizens. DO NOT sit in these areas unless you are elderly or are a person with a disability.
Mobility Aids Securement Area: Mobility Aids Securement Areas are reserved. Federal law requires that other passengers sitting in the securement areas move to other available seats or stand when a person using a mobility aide boards the bus. DO NOT sit in any of the Mobility Aide Securement Areas if you are elderly or a person with a disability. You will have to move to another seat or stand if a person using a mobility aid boards the bus.
MDT provides alternative accessible service within 30 minutes in the case that a Metrobus with scheduled headways of more than 30 minutes is traveling with an inoperable lift or securement system. Ask the Bus Operator if you require back up accessible service.
Be sure to remain behind the yellow (or white) safety line, and use the handrails for support. Standing or sitting in the stairwells is prohibited in the stairwells. When seated, keep your arms, legs, and personal items out of the aisles.
For the safety and comfort of everyone, playing radios, cassette tapes, CDs, etc. without earphones; smoking; eating; drinking; and animals (except service animals) are not allowed on buses or trains.
To Stop the Bus
When the bus stop of your destination is announced, signal the operator, just pull the cord, or push the stop button or tape, one block before your stop. The tape is located between the windows and above the windows and rear door in some buses. The cord runs along the window in most minibuses. The button is on the vertical pole in newer buses. Large push buttons are also located in wheelchair spaces. Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop. Exit the bus through the rear door whenever possible.
